We know how difficult quitting smoking can be, here are some great tips to make it easier.
1. Exercise. Exercise can reduce your stress and help you relax and make you feel better about yourself – much better than cigarettes can.
2. Over-the-counter crutches. Where cold-turkey has always shown to be the most long lasting, stop-smoking aids like gum, lozenges, and patches really do help ease withdrawal symptoms.
3. Chew away your cravings. Keeping your mouth busy will keep your mind off of smoking – make the decision to occupy it with healthy snacks, ALTHOUGH CAUTION…do not create another addiction in comfort or ‘addicting’ food choices such as refined sugars, artificial sweeteners, alcohol or drugs.
4. Distract yourself- Find ways to get your mind off of the smoking. Technology can be a great help. Handy apps for your smartphone like Quitter calculates how much money you're saving by not buying cigarettes, or even brain teaser’s and fun app’s like Sudoku and Bejeweled will not only help you quit and save you some cash, they can make you smarter and aid you in problem solving.
5. Avoid the ‘same ol’ triggers. Do you smoke when you drink alcohol or coffee? Identify the things that make you want to smoke and avoid them! Remember, everything we do is all about patterns, so it’s time to disassociate with the negative patterns and realign with some healthy ones.
6. Let it be about vanity. Get those pearly whites white again, notice how good your cloths now smell (and your breath). Once you see how much quitting smoking can do for your ‘beauty factor’ you will be motivated never to turn back to it again.
7. Find other ways to de-stress. Let’s face it, many people smoke to deal with stress, so look to replace that dirty cigarette with a relaxation technique like meditation, deep breathing, a walk in the wood’s or even a long bath.
8. Hypnosis? Many people have found hypnosis can help them kick the habit…might be an option for you to explore!
