Here Are Some Tips To Protect You From Your Cell Phone

Cell phones have become so engrained into our daily lives, although the amount of research on how they may affect our health is building, linking disease states such as Alzheimer’s Disease, Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Brain fog, Heart disease, miscarriage, infertility, insomnia, learning impairment, anxiety and depression.

Here are some great tips to help decrease your exposure to the EMF rays they emit.

1. Text, don’t talk whenever possible

2. Use speaker or headphones from an ipod to keep the phone as far away from your head as possible.

3. Disconnect- When you are not using your cell phone shut it off, especially at night when you are sleeping…do this for your in home wireless router as well.

4. Don’t carry it in your clothing; pockets, etc…get it away from your body.

5. Don’t use it in tight spaces that can become small EMF boxes (elevators, cars, buses, trains, subways)- in these places the signal amps up for coverage.

6. Purchase a phone with a low SAR (specific absorption rate)

7. Consider a cell phone diode to attach to your phone.

Vitamin D and Lung Cancer

It hardly seems a week can go by without new research coming out on the benefits of vitamin D.
New research out of the Loyal Universty Health System is showing how Vitamin D deficiency is associated with a significant increase in lung transplant rejection.

In every lung transplant case (as well as other transplant surgeries) there is a significant chance that the body will reject the organ.  Researchers believe that Vitamin D plays a very big role in supporting the immune system to allow the body to accept the organ.

In the study, 122 patients were evaluated beginning with Vitamin D levels after the surgery.  Vitamin D deficiency was associated with a significant increase in rejection for 51.7 percent of the patients during the first year following the transplant. In addition, Vitamin D deficiency also showed a trend toward increased airway inflammation in 16.7 percent of the patients.

Zero Calorie Sweetner Linked To Lung Cancer

The evidence mounts on why chemical treatments to lose weight are not the healthy answer.
From yet another diet drug being taking off of the market due to increasing chances of cardiovascular disease, to a long history of artificial sweeteners leading to maladies of health, now new research is emerging on more of aspartame’s potential for carcinogenic activity.
A new study by Dr. Morando Soffritti at the Ramazzini Institute demonstrated that aspartame administered in feed to Swiss mice induces significant dose-related increases in hepatocellular carcinomas and of alveolar/bronchiolar carcinoma in males.

If you don’t know, aspartame has a long and sorted history of being a major toxin to one’s health.  To this day, it is the number one reason of complaints called into the FDA for varied health issues from headaches, to nausea, to nerve pains and more.

Even before it was approved by the FDA, in 1985 toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross told Congress that at least one of Searle’s studies “has established beyond any reasonable doubt that aspartame is capable of inducing brain tumors in experimental animals and that this predisposition of it is of extremely high significance”

Aspartame today is found in over 6,000 products and among its heaviest users are children and women of childbearing age, as well as individuals with multi-factorial disease states such as diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

One would have to ask why, given all the research is aspartame still allowed to be on the market, especially in light of the Delaney Amendment which makes it illegal to allow any residue of cancer causing chemicals in foods.

This is a debate which will probably carry on for years, and most likely at the hands of some very powerful financial sources.

The answer to you and I should be simple.  Avoid it altogether.  Choose whole healthy foods, not chemically ridden science experiments which have the potential to leave us as a victim of ignorance.

And as an added point to mention, there have been numerous studies that have shown people losing weight after eliminating artificial sweeteners from their diets in place of healthy alternatives.

Are You Taking HRT?

You may have caught a media piece over the last day or two on a follow up to the Women’s Health Initiative study where they found that women taking the combination drug Prempro® (equine horse estrogens and progestin) had an increased chance of breast cancer, blood clots and other health issues.

This follow up has re-affirmed that by taking the combination drug Prempro® that women not only have an increased risk of breast cancer, but other cancers as well.

…Although once again the media does a very good job about confusing the public.

In every report we have found, over the internet and T.V., they have said that it’s the combination of estrogen and progesterone, which is a major misstatement of facts.

As mentioned above, the medication used to treat symptoms of menopause was Prempro®.  Prempro contains estrogen from pregnant horses – not estrogen that is bio-identical to humans.  Prempro® does not contain progesterone; it contains a synthetic chemical known as a progestin, called medroxyprogesterone.  This chemical has proven time and time again not to act as natural progesterone does in the human body.

The Obestiy Epidemic Could Solve A Lot Of Problems Up For Grabs This Election Month

As November elections approach and hot topics based around national healthcare, the economy and the national debt…could the solution of tackling our nations obesity problem be the answer we are all looking for.

New research suggests that nearly 17% of U.S, medical costs can be blamed on obesity, close to twice the impact on medical spending as previously estimated.

This new research done by John Cawley of Cornell Universiy and Chad Meyerhoefer of Lehigh University estimate annual obesity related medical costs at around $168 billion dollars annually.

How does this equate to your wallet?  Obesity adds over $2800 on average to peoples yearly medical bills.

If you are dealing with resistant weight loss, and would like not only save some money, but eliminate a number of health related risk factors, check with us on how we can help you lose those extra pounds.

Anti-Aging Tip?...Sleep Less...Liver Longer

So here is a bit of good news for women not getting their 'recommended amount of sleep"...less sleep might be a key to natural anti-aging and longevity health.

An interesting study out of the University of California says that to live longer, the optimal number of hours to sleep is less than 8 hours, and that 5 to 61/2 hours is ideal, and that 8 hours is too much for women.

Kind of a unique study, which was revisited after over a decade with conflicting results.

Between the years 1995 and 1999, investigators evaluated 459 women ranging from the ages of 50 to 81 on a number of different factors.  The study then indicated that women who slept 6.5 to 7.5 hours per night had the best survival rates.

Now, 14 years later, the researchers took another look at the original group of women, of whom 444 could be identified for evaluation purposes.  Eighty six women had died.

According to the study's lead scientist, Daniel F Kripke MD, "when sleep was measured objectively, the best survival was observed among women who slept 5 to 6.5 hours daily. Women who slept less than 5 hours a night or more than 6.5 hours a night were less likely to be alive at the 14 year follow up."

Interesting data indeed, although from just one study, it is probably too soon to take such a stance.  We want to make sure our sleep is consistent, restful, while providing ourselves with a proper balance of stress/renewal within the day for adequate energy and performance.

Why You Should Look For An Alternative To You Aches and Pains

Definitely not the best piece of publicity for the makers and sellers of acetaminophen (other brand names, Tylenol(R), Acephen(R), and others) especially on top of the news breaking of the cover-up they attempted in regards to tainted product...

It seems that the US government is using a major side-effect to acetaminophen to exterminate the invasive brown tree snake not native to the island.

It turns out that the brown tree snake hangs out in the rain forest canopy, and apparently suffers the same side-effect to acetaminophen as humans do, liver failure.

For a healthy adult, the maximum daily dosage of acetaminophen is 4000 mg daily, which I think is still a very dangerous dose, especially taken over time.  In fact, many health organizations that provide medications such as the VA are trimming back their maximum allowable dosages to 3000 mg daily.

So here is what the US Department of Agriculture is planning to do:  Take a bunch of frozen mice, fill them with acetaminophen, and then drop them upon the rain forest canopy.  The idea is that the invasive brown tree snake will then eat the mice, thus leading them to liver failure and death.

So the moral of the story is be careful of what acetaminophen you are taken.  It is often hidden in cough and cold as well as over the counter sleep medications...and if you use it for aches and pains, you might want to consider an alternative.

5 Big Factors for Breast Cancer Prevention

According to the National Cancer Institute over 175,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each and every year.

Where there is a big push to identify and diagnose issues of breast cancer in its early stages through mammography’s and thermography, it is prudent to now take a look at the 5 big factors of breast cancer prevention.

1. Vitamin D- In a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, women who reported taking at least 400 international units of Vitamin D every day were at a 24 percent lower risk of developing breast cancer.

The study was performed by evaluating 3101 breast cancer patients and 3471 healthy controls about their food intake as well as their supplements.

This study falls in line with countless others supporting Vitamins D’s benefits of reducing risk factors of other cancers, hypertension, heart failure, kidney, auto-immune diseases and chronic infections.

2. Obesity- Carlo La Vecchia, of Milan University told members at the European Breast Cancer Conference, that they believe up to a third of breast cancers could be avoided by simply adapting a healthier lifestyle which promoted healthy weight.

It is unclear why obese women are at more risk, although it is believed to be related to hormones.  Since estrogen is created in fat tissue, the more fat, the more estrogen which has shown when not balanced to be a contributor to certain cancers.

3. Hormonal Balance- Hormonal balance is a key factor to health.  Especially with female dominant hormones such as estrogen and progesterone, an imbalanced ratio leading to estrogen dominance can influence estrogen dominant cancers.

Estrogen and progesterone work in balance.  Estrogens job is to promote tissue growth, where progesterones’ job is to guide the tissue to grow healthy, and then die healthy.  When there is too much estrogen (found in fat tissue and external toxins) compared to progesterone, risk factors of estrogen dependent cancers can increase.

4. Xenoestrogens and external toxins- Through cleaning products, air freshners, insect repellants and pesticides, it is believed that external toxins are acting as hormone mimickers.  Hormone mimickers such as xenoestrogens, can tend to over stimulate estrogen receptors in the body.  As mentioned above, imbalanced hormone levels and stimulation leading to estrogen dominance is a risk factor for cancer.

5. A Diet Rich in Cancer Fighting Foods- As the father of modern medicine has said, “Let thy food be thy medicine, and thy medicine be thy food”…food sources have shown a tremendous ability to support factors that may prevent breast cancer.

Many studies have shown the ability of green tea to have anti-cancer effects, with the ability to reverse a stage I to a stage II as well as reduce absolute lymphocyte counts and reduced palpable adenopathy’s.

Green leafy vegetables and foods of the cruciferous vegetable category have shown to be able to influence how hormones such as estrogen are metabolized.  Green leafy vegetables like seaweed, kelp, and cruciferous vegetables such as kale and Brussels sprouts are estrogen binders and contain a natural ingredient called indole 3 carbionol which supports healthy estrogen metabolism.

Drug Induced Nutrient Depletions: The Ignored Responsiblity of the Medical System

Nutritional soundness is a key factor to a healthy, disease free life. Nutritional deficiencies can play a role in every disease.
Many nutritional deficiencies go unnoticed influencing issues such as :
  • PMS
  • Depression and Mood Imbalances
  • ADD and ADHD
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Osteoporosis
  • Insomnia
  • Energy Disorders, Weakness and Fatigue
  • Diabetes
  • Thyroid Disorder’s
  • And more
When the body is depleted of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids, it weakens, making it susceptible to a whole host of diseases, malfunctions and overall loss of well being.
In fact, researchers in the Journal of the American Medical Association stated,

“Sub-optimal vitamin states are associated with many chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and osteoporosis. It is important for physician’s to identify patients with poor nutrition or other reasons for increased vitamin needs.”

The Journal continues,

“Most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet alone…it appears prudent for all adults to take vitamin supplements.”
And contrary to what many believe, avoiding nutritional deficiencies is not just about eating a healthy diet.
There are four main causes to nutritional deficiencies and imbalances:
1. Diet
2. Aging
3. Lifestyle
4. Prescription Medications

Drug Induced Nutrient Depletion's

The problem of drug induced nutrient depletion's is probably much larger and widespread than we actually know.

Studies documenting over 1000 prescription and non-prescription drugs causing depletion's of one or more nutrients have been appearing in scientific literature for decades.

The fact remains that there are still countless studies that have not been performed on drug’s effect on various nutrients, and probably will not be done due to lack of funding for such studies.
Where it is not suggested that drug induced nutrient depletion's are the primary source of peoples disease states, if such nutritional depletion's are allowed to occur without providing proper nutritional balance, than this could provide a very strong influence towards such disease states.

It is critical for both health care practitioners and patients in need of taking such medications to arm themselves with the awareness and knowledge of medication side-effects and interactions, but also of the nutritional depletion's which they can cause.

Here is a very powerful example of how at just a few cents a day, vitamin therapy can reverse a very dangerous risk factor.
Vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid are commonly depleted by heart and diabetes medications, oral contraceptives, and more.
Homocysteine is a very important health marker that when elevated can be a dangerous cardiovascular risk and has been linked to accelerated brain shrinkage.
Just by taking Vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid can lower homocysteine levels and may be one of the most effective ways to decrease this risk of cardiovascular disease and other age related issues of health.

...And the greatest resource I have found is a book written by two of my former teachers, Jim Lavalle RPh, CCN, DND, and Ross Pelton, RPh CCN, The Nutritional Cost of Drugs

It truly is a book I feel everyone should own, the problem is, from what I understand it is out of print, and if you do a search on Amazon, people are selling it for $150 each and above.

Fortunately, I have about 15 or 20 copies left over from my store, so, I guess it's kind of a first come, first serve, I am selling the for only $35.00 each.
